Drive the development of your part of Pune city

Pune Municipal Commissioner Nitin Kareer has announced that citizens can give written applications suggesting developmental works in their wards to the extent of Rs 15 lakhs.

The application forms which include space for name, address and other details are available at all 14 ward offices. The form explains how citizens can make suggestions for development work, based on which they can give their own suggestions.

These applications should be submitted at the ward offices in the next 15 days. So the last date should be around 2 nd March 2007. To be on the safer side, plan to submit by end of Feb 2007.

The commissioner also said that a meeting will be conducted between the civic administration and citizens to finalise the suggestions and prioritise the works. To help citizens keep a follow-up on the works suggested by them, a time-table of tenders, work order and deadlines will also be released along with the budget.

I checked egovpmc.com to see if the form is available online, it isn’t. I also tried to find the addresses and contact details of the various ward offices but even that info isn’t available online. I could only find the list of wards stated below. Will add the contact details for the ward offices if and when I do find them. I believe my area (Bhandarkar Road) comes under the Ghole Road ward office.

  1. ARANYESHWAR
  2. AUNDH
  3. BANER
  4. BANK OF MAHARASTRA
  5. BHAVANI PETH
  6. BIBWE WADI
  7. CHANDAN NAGAR
  8. COSMOS BANK
  9. DHANKAWDI
  10. DHOLE PATIL ROAD
  11. GHOLE ROAD
  12. HADAPSAR
  13. HINGNE
  14. KARVE ROAD
  15. KASBA PETH
  16. KATRAJ
  17. KONDHWA
  18. SAHAKAR NAGAR
  19. SANGAM WADI
  20. TILAK ROAD
  21. VADGAON BK
  22. VADGAONSHERI
  23. VISHRAMBAUG WADA
  24. WARJE
  25. YERWADA

This new initiative to involve citizens in the development of the city is certainly a good one.

The PMC’s track record when it comes to development activities and fulfilling promises is undoubtedly very bad. However citizens in a democratic setup like ours still need to keep the faith and make good use of such citizen participation policies.
