Just browsed through PmtPune.org, the new official website of the Pune Municipal Transport (PMT). The site is impressive. Kudos to everybody involved in creating the site.
Designing a website is not a big deal these days, but making it easy to use and providing useful data and functionality, surely is. Especially as most PMT staff would be computer illiterate.
The site provides –

- Even Maps depicting the routes!
- Route Finder
- Pass Info
- Pune Darshan City Tour Info
- Hire a Bus Info
- Complaints Form
- Contacts
There’s lots of other useful data and no empty sections.
The BRT project has got a bad name in recent times but BRT buses make the site look good. BRT bus images flash across all pages while the other 99% of run down tin cases that are PMT buses are not shown.
The site actually is too good for PMT’s current standards. Viewing the website, even a resident of a developed nation used to great public transport systems might get fooled into thinking that he/she can use PMT while in Pune. If you have been to Pune, you would know that is pretty much impossible.
Hopefully the new website is a sign of good things to come for PMT and public transport systems in Pune.
I also hope the software companies haven’t charged some exorbitant amount for the web development and maintenance. I guess old world govt. officials could be easily made to think that it’s rocket science and worth millions.
The site is well designed but here are a few things I found amiss –
- Page title is not informative and stays the same for all pages. Search engines will not be kind to the site.
- No Favicon image that will be displayed in tabs on Firefox and IE7.
- The site provides for ad spaces. But it’s highly unlikely that PMT would be able to sell that space. So best option is to get the site on to Google Adsense or similar network.
PmtPune.org needs to learn from the egovpmc.com experience. EGovPmc.com the supposed e-governance initiative of the Pune Municipal Corporation has been a miserable failure as the site is down very often and there seems to be zero participation from the PMC administration. The site is also rarely updated and compalaints are never responded to. I have earlier blogged about how the egovpmc and pmcelection.com sites were messed up during election time.
PMTPune.org looks and feels much better. However great care needs to be taken to keep PMT staff interested and involved in the project, becasue if they stop cooperating, PmtPune.org could be another failed venture like egovpmc.

This is all about Today,

I just came to the PIMPRI – FINOLEX CHOWK BUS STOP to LEAVE MY FATHER IN LAW and just found the MANAPA bus arriving, I waived the bus to stop and the bus did stop but did stop only for second and though my FATHER IN LAW was entering into the bus with almost his one leg on the first step, the BUS TOOK OFF immediately without looking whether the passenger has got in or not.
And HE almost got HUNGED up for few second and if by chance his had left then would have fallen down in the WHEELS of the BUS and would be no more….
Later came to know that he and along with the co passengers fought with the conductor and the driver for thier irresponsibe behavious but they did the same thing at other stops and were hurrying to take the bus rather than waiting for the passengers to get in….

Bus frequency is not less at that time. but their was no separate bus in the morning to Swargate. Only the BRT is the Option for every one, thats why the bus was very cloudy, and ladies. are face so many ugly problems because of this rush and public, Sir. I request that plz. arrang the separate Buses to Swargate in the morning or arrange the separate que(Line) for ladies on the Bus stop (Hadapsar).

It has been observed that more than 90% buses don’t obey the Traffic Rules e.g. :- They stop their bus on Zeebra Crossing at traffic signal. every bus has a sticker of we obey traffic rules. Dear sir i m a student of bvu.i always came by bus.today(2nd sep) i got in 2 the bus from MORE BIDYALAYA CHOWK and SAID “BHAiya ek depo ke liye ticket and gave him 10rupes note.and conductor suddenly said u dont have any coin(in a very rude manner) . I said no then he took that 10 rs note and gave me a ticket and i think he will also give me the change.but i was wrong.when i was asked he said give me change again in a harsh language.then i get out of that bus in kothrud depo and just giving u a complain .plz kindly take action.i m not saying that why he was not returned the rest amount,i m saying about his roving nature.bus no is MH12-ch-4304

I stay at vishrntwadi and my office is at SUS-Road.I have to come to shivajinagar then catch the second bus.
But the bus which come from Aalandi doesn’t stop at the requested stop at FULE NAGAR.Or sometimes its pretend it has stoped and except 1-2 boys no one can get into the bus.Tough there is 1 person has been attended on alternate day,when no will there the bus doesnt stop.

also there are no buses between station and lohegaon..
sometimes there are 3 buses consequtively and sometimes a 1 hour wait either way is the order. also in the evening the buses that run to lohegaon from kothrud do not run on time at all..usually no bus between 5-6 pm..please look into matter.

I am Shirish S. Pathak, Today, dt 25/04/09. ticket number 250504. I was traveling from, from bus number MH-12-CH-3952(Warje-Malwadi to Swarget) catch the bust from warje bust stop at 11:55pm.
When bus arrived, it stop far away from warje stop, people has ran and catch the bus, there could be chances of accident with behind vehicle. In this hot summer people has run and catch the bus. More over bus was empty. When I was asked about this to driver he was very arrogant and unprofessional and abusing me. Please take hard action to this driver.
